Beach bummer – The Register

Oregon has relatively clean beach water, an analysis by The Register-Guard shows, but that doesn’t mean visitors to the state’s vaulted coastline aren’t immune from the potential of falling ill due to contaminated seawater.

As the summer heat wanes, beachcombers can head to the Oregon Coast confident there’s little chance they will get sick from contaminated ocean water.

But people have reported getting sick. And the state does issue periodic advisories about illness-inducing water at a handful of popular beaches, according to The Register-Guard’s analysis of more than a decade of monitoring data required by the federal government.
