Coastal legislator pushes better tsunami prep

SALEM — With legislative efforts to move forward statewide rules that would allow coastal communities to better prepare for tsunami planning, some legislators are concerned those efforts could be dampened under current regulations.

A statute that prevented new construction in the tsunami inundation zone along the coast was repealed during the most recent legislative session, although that action came with a price — state money can’t be used to relocate buildings like schools or hospitals out of the danger zone.
