Hiker rescued from rocks at Ecola State Park late Wednesday


Hot weather and high water levels have been a tragic combination on the Little North Santiam River this spring. Marion County Sheriff’s Office recommends swimmers follow these precautions.

A hiker who found himself stranded on rocks surrounded by water and crashing waves at Ecola State Park on Wednesday evening was rescued by helicopter.

Local dispatchers relayed a report of a stranded hiker at about 9:18 p.m., according to a statement by the U.S. Coast Guard.
