Crab boat capsizing tragically ends NJ fishermen’s West Coast dreams

Two New Jersey fishermen and one man from Oregon died in rough seas off the coast of Oregon.

Stephen Biernacki and James Lacey, both from Ocean County, went out west this fall to try their luck in the perilous $74 million Dungeness crab fishery. 

They didn’t survive the first week of the season. Their boat Mary B II, purchased in the fall, capsized Tuesday night as they tried to cross the treacherous Yaquina Bay Bar off Newport, Oregon.
