Two years ago, Oregonian staff writer Noelle Crombie learned that investigators had pieced together new information implicating former state highway worker John Arthur Ackroyd in the cold case homicides of two teenagers last seen alive on the Oregon coast.
Ackroyd was already serving a life sentence for the 1978 murder of Kaye Turner, a Eugene woman he killed after finding her running alone on an isolated road in central Oregon. It took 14 years to bring Ackroyd to justice in that case.
In the meantime, his stepdaughter Rachanda Pickle disappeared.
