Readers respond: Time for state to join polystyrene ban

Every day, Americans use and throw away 70 million foam containers. These polystyrene containers are not reusable, not easily recycled, and once thrown away, they persist in the environment for hundreds of years. Every piece of polystyrene ever made is still out there today, breaking down into smaller and smaller particles that sully our beautiful Oregon coast and rivers and are ingested by wildlife. Nothing we use for 10 minutes should pollute our environment for hundreds of years.
