Kargi Gogo opens Georgian restaurant in NE Portland

Kargi Gogo, the former Portland food cart dedicated to Georgian cuisine, opened in July as a brick and mortar restaurant on Northeast Alberta Street.

The restaurant specializes in khachapuri cheese breads and kninkaki dumplings — and if those names aren’t a giveaway, we’re talking about foods from Georgia the country, not the state.

“Georgia is a small country, it’s about the size of South Carolina, over on the Black Sea coast,” said Sean Fredericks, who co-owns the restaurant with his wife. The country is sandwiched between Russia to the north and Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan to the south.
