The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a fisherman whose boat eventually sank off the Oregon coast Wednesday.
The agency said the fisherman was safely taken to shore and that his vessel sank about 2 1/2 miles west of the Chetco River entrance at Brookings. Debris and a light fuel sheen was reported in the water, the agency said, but crews recovered “as much of the debris as possible.”
The Coast Guard said the fisherman asked for help about 10 a.m., reporting his 29-foot commercial vessel was flooding and that pumps weren’t able to keep up with the flooding.
