16 things to do in Oregon before the Really Big One hits

Two years ago today, on July 20, 2015, The New Yorker published its most terrifying work of nonfiction, an article called “The Really Big One.” The article, written by Kathryn Schulz who went on to win a Pulitzer Prize, detailed the destruction that awaits the Pacific Northwest when the Big One hits the Cascadia subduction zone.

Kenneth Murphy, who directs FEMA’s Region X, which is responsible for Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska, told Shulz, “Our operating assumption is that everything west of Interstate 5 will be toast.”
